Registrations are now open for Mitey cyclists – big and small – to dust off their bikes and pedal the pavement in the VEGEMITE Family Ride.

Held on the first evening of the three-day Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race cycling festival, the VEGEMITE Family Ride kicks off at 5.30 pm on Friday, 27 January, and is open to adults and children four years and older.

The event will see participants cruise along a safe, closed off and flat 1.3km circuit perfect for riders of all abilities. Riders will be free to do as many laps of the circuit as they please for a full hour before the event concludes at 6.30 pm.

The route will take in the Geelong Waterfront as well as pass under the official Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race start/finish gantry – just like the professionals!

They’ll not only take in the sights of Geelong but get to ride alongside Cadel Evans and some of the best riders in world cycling.

2011 Tour de France winner and father Cadel Evans said the VEGEMITE Family Ride provides the whole family with a memorable cycling experience and is the perfect way to kick-start the weekend.

“I am genuinely looking forward to once again participating in the VEGEMITE Family Ride with my family on the magnificent Geelong waterfront circuit.

“It’s a great chance for us all to put our devices away for a few hours, get on our bikes and remind ourselves how much fun being active as a family can be.

VEGEMITE Marketing Manager Jess Hoare said VEGEMITE was proud to join forces with the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race again.

“VEGEMITE couldn’t be prouder to be partnering with the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in January. We can’t wait to see Happy Little VEGEMITEs young and old hitting the pavement at the event.”

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said:

“The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race is an incredible weekend of cycling showcasing Geelong and the Surf Coast to fans, spectators and riders of all ages.

“We’re proud to support elite and public-participation events like the Family Ride once again, which will bring thousands of visitors to the region and boost business over the long weekend.”

The first 500 registered riders to check in on the day will receive a free VEGEMITE t-shirt to wear during the ride.

After crossing the finish line, riders are encouraged to enjoy the festival atmosphere at the Steampacket Gardens Event Village which will include family activities, giveaways and food stalls.
