The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race is excited to welcome GeelongPort as the new naming-rights partner of the much-loved Family Ride.

Registrations are now open for all cyclists – big and small – to pedal the pavement in the GeelongPort Family Ride during Australia’s premier weekend of cycling.

Held on Friday 26 January, the GeelongPort Family Ride kicks off at 6.00pm and is open to both adults and children four years and older.

The event will see participants cruise along a safe, closed off and flat 1.3km circuit perfect for riders of all abilities. The route will take in the Geelong Waterfront as well as pass under the official Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race start/finish gantry – just like the professionals.

They’ll also get to ride alongside Cadel Evans and some of the best riders in world cycling.

Cadel Evans AM said it was fantastic that a local Geelong organisation is supporting a ride created for local families.

“To have an organisation of GeelongPort’s calibre support our event is a testament to the growth of the Family Ride since its inception.

“GeelongPort sees the value in supporting and fostering community activity and bringing people together – a motivation for us when we created the ride.

“The GeelongPort Family Ride provides the whole family with a memorable and safe cycling experience.

“It’s open and free for everyone, from those on balance bikes learning the ropes to experienced parents keen to get the family together for a ride.”

GeelongPort CEO Brett Winter said it was an exciting time for the organisation and were keen to join forces with the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.

“The GeelongPort Family Ride is focused on health and wellbeing in the community and creating benefits for the local region – two things we believe in as an organisation.

“We admire the event’s mission of making cycling more accessible, and we can’t wait to see the circuit filled with locals of all ages.”

Ella George MP Member for Lara said it was terrific to see another Geelong-based sponsor getting behind the iconic cycling event.

“GeelongPort is an active member of the local community and I’m thrilled to see them supporting a major event that brings thousands of visitors to the region.”

The first 500 registered riders to check in on the day will receive a free GeelongPort t-shirt to wear during the ride.

The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race is delivered with support from the Victorian Government through Visit Vicotria.
