Trophies

Elite Road Races

Crafted in Victoria by Flynn Silver, the elite race trophy is a striking fusion of cycling heritage and coastal inspiration. Its curved form evokes the letter ‘C’ for Cadel, constructed from a high-quality road bike rim that symbolises the winding bitumen of the Great Ocean Road.

Embracing the rim is a translucent blue acrylic sheet, chosen to reflect the vibrant surf of Victoria’s coastline. Together, these elements form a dynamic wave motif—capturing the energy of the race and the spirit of the region.

This trophy is more than a prize. It’s a tribute to the journey, the landscape, and the legacy of one of Australia’s greatest cyclists.

Surf Coast Classic

The Surf Coast Classic trophies, also crafted by Wathaurong Glass & Arts, reflect the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Victoria’s coastal region. The upper curves of the glass design mirror the shoreline, with a textured sand finish evoking the local beaches.

Beneath, traditional journey lines represent the race route—connecting riders to the land and the community through which they race. These trophies are awarded to the winners of the midweek classics and serve as a tribute to the region’s spirit, the challenge of the course, and the cultural richness of the Surf Coast.

Gerry Ryan Award

The Gerry Ryan Award recognises the best under-25 male and female riders in the elite races. Designed by Wathaurong Glass & Arts, the trophy is a powerful blend of cycling achievement and Indigenous storytelling. Its glass form features traditional cross-hatching along the sides, symbolising “you are on country,” while the central design traces the race journey—from the gathering motif at the start to the finish line.

This award not only celebrates athletic promise but also acknowledges Gerry Ryan’s enduring support for Australian cycling and the pathways he’s helped create for young riders to reach the world stage.
