How to volunteer

Love cycling? Love sport? Love the region?

Join our team and help deliver the 2024 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.

Thanks to all the exceptional volunteers who helped with the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race 2023.

We are on the hunt for exceptional volunteers to assist with the delivery of the 2024 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. As a volunteer, you’ll not only get to be part of this international sporting event, but all volunteers go home with an event t-shirt, a cap, and hopefully some wonderful memories!

Excitingly, we are proud to offer fundraising incentives for your community club, group, or charity. $50 per person for a shift under four hours, or $80 per person for a shift over four hours.

As a final incentive, we also have two pairs of Oakley sunglasses in a random giveaway, thanks to our partners at Oakley Australia.

So whether you want to get a closer spot to the action, supporting your group, or the personal satisfaction of this opportunity, hit the button below to register your interest.

Each year, an army of volunteers make this event possible, fulfilling the roles detailed below.

Marshals

This role includes directing riders, pedestrians and spectators to ensure the course is clear and safe. There may be a need to assist Victoria Police with any necessary road closures.  Most importantly you will be watching for riders who may need medical assistance!

Course Marshals

Are generally located at an intersection (sometimes near a café) advising road users that the race is passing by soon and asking users not to cross onto the race route.

Field of Play Marshals

Are generally in the thick of the action – using whistles and flags appropriately to warn riders of potential hazards such as round-abouts and crossings.

Village Assistants

Information Assistant

The main responsibility in this role will be communicating with spectators, assisting them with key timings such as race start/finish times and location of different event facilities.

Pedestrian Crossing Assistant

In this role you will be in the thick of the action, stationed at crossings along the start/finish line to assist pedestrians and spectators safely cross the road when clear. You may be asked to assist with the movement of barriers to ensure the course is safe for riders.

Aid Station Assistant

This role assists any riders who stop in at the aid station and direct them to toilets, water, and first aid. In addition, you will be working as a team to support the site operations, set up and pack down. Designated locations will be around the course as part of the People’s Ride
