WHAT THEY WIN

Valuable WorldTour points and a strong start to the season are not the only things on the line during the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. The prizes on offer across the ultimate weekend of cycling are also coveted.

The event trophies are handcrafted and thoughtfully designed in Victoria by Flynn Silver. Dan and John Flynn pride themselves on their artistic flare and ability to capture the essence of an event’s story, bringing it to life through their craftsmanship.

Cadel Road Races

The story behind the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race trophy for the winning male and female riders begins with its shape. The curve of the trophy symbolises a ‘C’ for Cadel.

The ‘C’ is designed using a high-quality road bike rim. The black edge of the rim also represents the winding bitumen of the Great Ocean Road.

Adjoining the bike rim, a piece of translucent blue acrylic sheet has been carefully chosen to resemble the colour of the surf along the iconic Victorian coastline, and as the acrylic sheet embraces the rim, the two materials form the distinct representation of a wave.

The 2018 winners also receive a TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 watch. While the winner – if Australian – of the Deakin University Elite Women’s Race will be automatically nominated for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

TOWARDS ZERO RACE MELBOURNE

The design of this trophy celebrates elements of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race trophy and the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix trophies – both are the work of Flynn Silver, from Kyneton, Victoria.

The blue central disc is the same material as in the Cadel Road Race trophy and the silver plate design is similar to the trophies presented at the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix in March.

The Towards Zero Race Melbourne logo, with the radiating circles, is used to great effect on the silver plate.

Gerry Ryan Award

The Gerry Ryan Award, introduced in 2018, is for the best under 25 male and female rider in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Races. The winners can be either domestic or international riders.

Cadel Evans and his management Signature Sport with the support of Visit Victoria acknowledge the opportunities Gerry has provided for so many Australian riders – male and female – to develop and ultimately compete on the world stage.

Gerry’s initials are cast in sterling silver set onto a sliver of the blue material also used in the Cadel Road Race trophy. This blue is shaped like the Visit Victoria logo and reflects both event location and the Melbourne businessman’s home state.

The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race logo is engraved into the base of the crystal column and a sterling silver top carries the engraving.
