NEW SHORT COURSE IS HERE!

The 2018 Swisse People’s Ride will once again give you the chance to ride along many of the same stunning and challenging roads as the elite women and men.

This year we introduce the inaugural 35km course – perfect for riders of all abilities. While the 65km and 111km courses return for those who love a longer hit out.

35KM RIDERS

Ride elevation 178m overall elevation, max 39m

Starting from Geelong’s foreshore, you will follow the same outbound route as the longer courses before turning right early from Barwon Heads Road. You then follow the flat course along Horseshoe Bend Road via Armstrong Creek and the new estate of Warralily.

Heading back towards Geelong past South Barwon Reserve, you will be treated to the spectacular views from Eastern Park and the Geelong waterfront, where you will finish.

Cruise across the finish line at Steampacket Gardens and enjoy the festival atmosphere ahead of the Deakin University Elite Women’s Race UCI 1.1* later in the day.

65km Riders

Ride elevation – 258m overall, max elevation 39m

Starting from Geelong’s foreshore you will ride south-east via Barwon Heads Road to Cadel’s hometown.

Travelling up the main street of Barwon Heads the course hugs the coast, taking in the incredible views across the endless sands and rolling surf of Thirteenth Beach.

The 65km riders split off at Horseshoe Bend Road and head back towards South Barwon Reserve. Beyond here, you will be treated to the spectacular views from Eastern Park and the Geelong waterfront, where you will finish.

111km Riders

Ride elevation – 845m overall, max elevation 176m

The 111km long course riders leave Geelong’s foreshore and follow Barwon Heads Road south-east to Cadel’s hometown.

Travelling up the main street of Barwon Heads the course hugs the coast, taking in the incredible views across the endless sands and rolling surf of Thirteenth Beach.

You will return to the coast on approach into Torquay along the spectacular foreshore. After re-joining the Great Ocean Road briefly, the route travels north along bushy Forest Road, where the shady trees provide some respite.

This carries you through most of the way to Moriac and then over the rolling Barrabool Hills. Now Geelong bound, navigate the climbs and fast descents to the historic village of Ceres.

Once back in Geelong you will climb up towards the highest point on the course, The Ridge, before a long descent down Scenic Road into the picturesque Queens Park. Crossing the Barwon River, you will take on a couple of short steep ascents to end the climbing for the day.

Once on Minerva Road and then Church Street, it is recovery time. The route then takes you on to Geelong’s famous waterfront to the finish line.
