While Cadel prepares for the 111km Swisse People’s Ride his partner, Stefy, has other plans!

If you thought Cadel loved cycling the Surf Coast, wait until you meet his partner Stefy Zandonella, who will ride the new 35km Swisse People’s Ride course on Saturday 27 January, 2018.

The ski instructor at Italy’s Cortina d’Ampezzo said the short course was the perfect way to enjoy being on the bike with the support of an organised event, great company and beautiful scenery.

Starting and finishing at Geelong waterfront, the 35km route follows the same outbound roads as the longer courses, but takes you along Horseshoe Bend Road via Armstrong Creek and the new estate of Warralily. Then, it’s all about the spectacular views from Eastern Park and the Geelong waterfront on the return.

Whether you are new to cycling, like Stefy, returning after a layoff or keen for a taste of the action, the 35km course is great for men, women and teens alike who enjoy being active and healthy.

Stefy, who keeps fit by cycling with Cadel, skiing and running, said:Healthy living and good nutrition for Cadel and I is very important – it’s a lifestyle and not an imposition.”

“We would like to be a good example for Cadel’s son, my nephews and the young athletes skiing with me.

“Good nutrition and exercise is also important for preventing diseases like cancer, heart problem and diabetes.”

Stefy, who is vegan, ensures her diet includes plenty of fresh vegetable and fruit, cereals and legumes.

She added: “Running, riding a bike and long walks with the family complete our lifestyle.”

To help prepare for the Swisse People’s Ride – now only 10 weeks away – Stefy suggested planning some regular rides with friends and family, particularly in the Surf Coast region.

“Riding a bike close to the ocean is a dream for many European people like me,” she said. “There’s nothing better than smelling the eucalyptus trees on the breeze and enjoying great company while riding on the Bellarine Peninsula or Great Ocean Road.

“Riding when you’re surrounded by such stunning nature is the best way to clear your mind.”

Stefy, who has already tried out the 2018 Swisse People’s ride exclusive Santini jersey, looks forward to seeing the wave of riders in the same kit.

“The colours look like the ocean and clear sky in Australia, so to see everyone riding in the jersey along the Surf Coast will amazing. It’s also very comfortable and easy to wear.”
